Fire Feature in Steel
Created by John Beck Paper & Steel, Fire Cube is a great looking portable fire element that can be used inside or out. Fueled by four cans of SunJet fuel, a clean burning alcohol based product, the fire can burn up to three hours. SunJet also puts out some heat, about 3000 BTUs per can. What a great way to create a little ambiance. $510.
But Can You Feel The Heat?
Apparently you can with this coffee table – fire element combination from Planika, designed by Christophe Pillet. The fire is fueled by Fanola, a bio-ethanol liquid which is a smoke free, odorless flamable liquid which emits steam and CO2 in proportions similar to the exhalation of a person. A metal cup is placed in the center of the unit. To light the fire, you fill the fuel container with Fanola and light it. Each liter of Fanola burns for 2-5 hours. There are a number of interesting fire elements, both indoor and out from Planika. Designs are freestanding and wall mounted. All are flue-less, smokeless and odorless. Available @ Magedman Modern.
Fire and Water Features
Further to our discussion of outdoor fire features…
We received a tip about Flame Creation, located in Snellville, Georgia. This company specializes in custom fire features including fire bowls and combined fire and water elements. The website has images of some nice, resorty looking installations. Good source of inspiration.
Thanks Mike!
Concrete Fire Bowl
This beautiful concrete firebowl is made by Solus in Vancouver BC.
It is 36″ across and 17″ high, so it provides a little more height than the other bowls we’ve look at so far. Made from handcrafted concrete and intended to burn gas or propane. The flame from the earth effect is stunning. The price is in a different league at $4200, but it is really beautiful.
Fire Feature
Ok this firepit is minimal and attractive. A good size at 31″ or 40″ square and 10″high. Made from cold rolled carbon steel with a natural rust finish. The smaller piece is priced at just over $1000, not a bad price. @ Gibraltar.
Skagerak Olympia Firebowl
A more modest proposal, but very appealing just the same. Olympia Firebowl is about 24″ diameter and 8″ high – perfect for roasting marshmallows or just lighting up the night. I can’t find information on the material, but I’m thinking its painted steel. This is a very affordable option at about $300.
Fire Bowl
In case you think I am obsessing over Corten Steel, this Big Bowl O Zen can be ordered with a high temperature grill paint. I like the shape of this firebowl which was designed by John T. Unger somewhere in Northern Michigan, I believe. This piece is available in 30″ or 37″ diameter and can be upgraded to a natural gas or propane firepit for an additional $200. Starting at $749 for the smaller bowl, this is pretty well priced.
Modern Wood Burning Stoves
Wittus Fire by Design’s Shaker wood burning stove designed by Antonio Cittero and Toan Nguyen was inspired by American Shaker furniture design. Made from mattel black steel, the stove is available with a small or lare side bench table and can be loaded from the right or left. The Shaker is the 2006 recipient of both the reddot design and Chicago Museum of Architecture Good Design awards. Simple, elegant and strong. I love this piece.
