Described as a pot-bellied Kimeroide? (hmmm, I had to look that up – Google showed no references except by Casamania, go figure). Anyway, the concept is one of an animal of the future – some sort of cross-cross breed that is nice and friendly – house pet or outside friend. Kekazze is a decorative object to be used indoors or out. At 47″ high x 33″dia, this guy is almost as tall as and considerably wider than my seven year old. @ functions, Los Angeles.
This piece was designed by Omar Ronda, part of the artist’s collective Cracking Art whose purpose was “…to change the codes for the art of the future” and reportedly regarded their work as a “search for archaic forms in the modern”.

One of the best things about blogging is getting tips about things you would never come across on your own. Here is one example: Roger Borg is located in Perth Amboy, New Jersey where he runs a neon sign business. However, Roger is also a fine artist who, after post graduate work in fine art, did a stint at Dale Chihuly’s Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State. The neon art most certainly comes from a guy who knows his medium. I found it pretty interesting @ Rogerborg.com.

By the time someone is having their second or third child, they pretty much have acquired every toy, baby book, blanket and rattle they’ll ever need. So what to send? Recently friends of mine welcomed their third daughter. I thought Blik Alphabet Zoo Re-Stiks might be a good gift. While the baby isn’t going to do much with them, they are a nice addition to a bedroom wall, can be set up and reorganized by her two big sisters, and are a welcome change to the typical linear alphabet display. At $35, its a great gift. You can also find Re-Stiks in contemporary patterns that would appeal to a teenager. Check it out at Blik Re-stiks.

The Netherlands’ oldest company (started about 400 years ago), and you probably know some of their products – Royal Tichelaar Makkum. But this is no stodgy old line ceramics company. They produce modern works from the likes of Studio Job, Hella Jongerius, Marcel Wanders, Jan Broekstra, Arian Brekveld and Roderick Vos. Additionally, they develop custom building applications for leading architects including Ettore Sottsass, Allied Works and Kohn Pederson Fox. Very interesting and enthusiastic approach to the design business. Its worth checking out their website. From exquisitely produced traditional ceramics to out-there modern design.

Wrongwoods is a collaboration between British artist Richard Woods and Sebastian Wrong for Established & Sons. Richard Woods is well known for his bold and exaggerated representations of British motifs. His interpretation of wood flooring has now been applied to a simple modern chest. As appealing as it is in the image, this piece really needs to be seen in person to appreciate the artist’s hand. I saw it just a few days ago at Moss LA – While I was there, Dane also directed me to a book of Richard Woods work which really provides insight and provokes thought, definietly worth checking out. Wrongwoods is one of those pieces that actually moves you.

Mike Perry, has run a design studio in Brooklyn over the past two years. He does work in design, illustration, type, art direction or art. I found him via Semigood Design in Seattle where they sell ceramic pieces with a Perry graphic. From there i visited Perry’s website Midwest Is Best - the guy has done alot of work for familar names and I found the images really compelling. If you would like to purchase a ceramic piece, check in with Semigoods.
