Tsao McKown
Calvin Tsao and Zack McKown began their practice in New York in 1985. They have completed a number of projects from residences to libraries, hopitality and retail worldwide. I was drawn to this image from a NYC townhouse because of the simplicity of the design and the subtle gestures that make the composition so interesting. The large wall clock that reminds me of so many office timepieces… offset over a beautifully finished focal point sideboard. The simple white linen pendant light is over a monochromatic, yet mixed texture, chair/table combination. All of this modern simplicity against a backdrop of soft white traditional mouldings on the windows, ceilings and doorways. It takes great restraint to hold back, but in my mind, the result is completely worth it.
