Viesso is an LA based furniture showroom that has totally embraced customization. On their website, you choose configurations, arm and leg styles and uphostery, frame and leg finishes. However, Viesso also offers great deals on floor models and stock pieces. The Pel Chair shown here in a Maharam fabric is one of my personal favorites. I have test driven this chair, it is very comfortable and well proportioned. The chair retails for $2214 but this floor model is offered at $750. Check out other great deals @ Viesso.

Yaschilan Carpet by Vittorio Locatelli for Driade. Locatelli combines architectural and interior design with applied arts including illustration, graphic design and painting. The result here is just really pretty. From the colors to the highly detailed design, this rug is beautiful. I am really curious about the name, Yaschilan. From what I can find, it may be reference to the Yaxchilan area of Mexico – a Mayan archaelogical center that is only reachable by air or boat on Rio Usmacinta, the river that divides Mexico and Guatemala. If anyone knows the story behind this piece or its name, tip us off! @Linea

Wrongwoods is a collaboration between British artist Richard Woods and Sebastian Wrong for Established & Sons. Richard Woods is well known for his bold and exaggerated representations of British motifs. His interpretation of wood flooring has now been applied to a simple modern chest. As appealing as it is in the image, this piece really needs to be seen in person to appreciate the artist’s hand. I saw it just a few days ago at Moss LA – While I was there, Dane also directed me to a book of Richard Woods work which really provides insight and provokes thought, definietly worth checking out. Wrongwoods is one of those pieces that actually moves you.

If you’ve walked or driven down La Brea Avenue in the last nine months you must have noticed a dramatic space on the west side of the street between Beverly and 1st – it was LIMN. Edgy showrooms can sometimes intimidate people, but trust me, you need to walk through the door. These are people who love design, are excited by it and want to share it with you. The showroom is totally ecclectic and curated. The pieces are all fantastic in their own right – Ideas that never crossed your mind that have been conceived, designed and executed by new and established designers and artists. A field trip definitely worth taking. Limn is at 169 N. La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles.
Dan Freidlander started LIMN 27 years ago in San Francisco – that showroom is now a staggering 40,000 square feet of modern, one of the most complete we’ve seen. Since then, LIMN showrooms have opened in Sacramento, Seattle and Los Angeles – each was designed to have a unique character. I will be in Seattle in a few weeks and will report back on LIMN Seattle.

Bella from twentieth modern is equal parts retro and modern. Contemporary enough to feel current and retro enough to lend some measure of familiarity. I love the taupe upholstery, seems just right for this shapely lounge chair. The Chair was recently featured in C – California Style Magazine. About $2800 at twentieth, los angeles.

Look at those fabulous shelter publications and sigh because you love what you see but are pretty sure its out of range? There are design services offered through retail showrooms, but then you feel like your home will look like their catalog. So what to do. I was intrigued by Michael Richman Interiors in Chicago – they offer quick, easy and accessible design services through their R Studio division. (I would add, not-so-intimidating). R Studio offers to utilize their relationships with design centers and custom vendors to provide a designed, yet more affordable solution for your home. They offer a menu of services from window treatments to complete design packages, knowing full well that money is an object.
Looking at the work on their website, you can see this firm knows what’s what. Richman Interiors
