X Table by Phillip K. Smith III & Burzeen Contractor for The Art Office. Using two graphic forms as the simple inspiration for this table base, the form morphs from an “X” at the base to a square at the top.  Designed to be a functional and sculptural piece, the form and its shell construction invite viewers to experience the play of light on the exterior and interior of the piece.  Built from 40 layers of stacked 24mm plywood, each layer is different, yet cut with precision and consistency with the use of CNC technology.  A square piece of glass is used as the table top.  Dimensions: 18”w. x 18”d. x 18”h.

 

Material: 1/2" thin-ply birch plywood - finishes available: light brown, dark brown, charcoal, black, and clear/natural.
